Cornwall National Landscape secures The National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to launch The Heart of Natural Beauty: Landscape Connections

Local communities will be at the heart of an exciting new nature recovery project in Cornwall

Cornwall National Landscape has been awarded £119,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to deliver ‘The Heart of Natural Beauty: Landscape Connections’; a bold initiative that will unite Cornwall National Landscapes’ 12 diverse sections, connecting people, place, nature and climate.

Thanks to National Lottery players, Phase 1 of the project is running until April 2026, laying the foundations for a long-term programme, that connects communities and organisations, celebrates Cornwall’s unique heritage and inspires action for a flourishing future.

At the heart of this phase of work is a new digital StoryMap platform and 12 data-driven interactive dashboards. These tools will shine a light on local landscape character, reveal where nature and heritage need help and highlight opportunities for recovery and resilience. By linking voices with resources, the hub will empower our communities and organisations to take action for their cherished local places.

Coralie Barrow, Project Development Officer from Cornwall National Landscape, said: “We are thrilled to have received this support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we are connecting the local communities and organisations of Cornwall National Landscape, sharing knowledge, passion and pride in the places we love.”

This project will link trusted local voices with resources, connecting communities and organisations to unlock the hidden potential of our landscape and lay the foundations for nature recovery, better access and a healthy and flourishing future for all.

Stuart McLeod, Director of England - London & South at The National Lottery Heritage Fund, said: “We’re delighted to support Cornwall National Landscape in launching The Heart of Natural Beauty: Landscape Connections. The project will bring people together to celebrate and protect the heritage that makes this landscape so special. Thanks to National Lottery players, more people will be able to connect with the natural heritage on their doorstep.”

What The Heart of Natural Beauty: Landscape Connections will deliver:

A digital StoryMap and 12 interactive dashboards: shining a light on where Cornwall’s landscapes and heritage are under pressure, from habitats at risk to climate impacts.

Evidence for action: providing the data and insight needed to target nature recovery, restore biodiversity and protect fragile cultural heritage.

Community voices at the heart: ensuring local knowledge, identity and lived experience guide how solutions are shaped and delivered.

Stronger networks and shared resources: connecting landowners, communities and organisations to pool expertise, so challenges can be tackled collectively.

Foundations for long-term recovery: establishing the baseline that will unlock future investment and action for resilient landscapes, long term recovery, greater access and a flourishing Cornwall.

The Heart of Natural Beauty: Landscape Connections is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players. The National Lottery Heritage Fund is investing £150million over 10 years to support large-scale projects that revive landscapes, support nature recovery and enhance the connections between people and wildlife across the UK.
