The National Landscapes Association submission to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) consultation on reforms to the statutory consultee system.
A statutory consultee is a specific organisation or body legally required by law (a statute) to be consulted on certain planning applications or policy changes. The MHCLG consultation explored removing statutory consultee status from certain bodies, reviewing the scope of what statutory consultees advise on, and improving performance management across existing statutory consultee bodies in the planning system more widely.
Our response identifies a key gap in the process in that there is no representation for landscape in the current statutory consultee system. We propose making National Landscapes teams specific consultees for local plans.
