Overview
Over the next 12 months, the National Landscapes Association will be working with Finance Earth to expand its green finance knowledge and capacity.
This will help us to unlock larger-scale, longer-term funding for projects with environmental, social, and economic benefits within and across the National Landscapes.
Why green finance?
Green finance refers to the financing of environmental projects either in combination with, or outside of, the traditional grants and schemes model.
Grants and schemes have funded incredibly successful and impactful work throughout the country, and they remain fundamental to the work we do.
But they are typically limited in scale and permanence. Green finance has the potential to remedy both.
As regulations such as the Task Force for Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and the similar Task Force for Nature-Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) push businesses to expose their environmental impact, it is expected that more money will be available for nature restoration work outside of the traditional streams.
This emerging market is new and evolving, and for the first time ever, ecologists and economists are working together.
These kinds of partnerships will ensure going forward that we collectively achieve the best for nature, people, and business.
Aims of the partnership
Finance Earth is an expert independent advisor with experience creating environmental projects and the investment vehicles to fund them.
As an employee-owned social enterprise, they have worked with numerous environmental stakeholders, investors, and commercial partners to deliver positive outcomes for nature, communities, and investors.
By partnering with Finance Earth, we aim to:
- Develop and expand the green finance capacity of the National Landscapes.
- Establish the reputation, presence, and contacts of the National Landscapes in the green finance space.
- Identify and develop investment-ready propositions for nature-based solutions projects within the National Landscapes.
Together, we will produce nature-based solutions projects primed for green finance along with the right investor contacts to kickstart them.
We are looking forward to working in partnership with Finance Earth to explore how to leverage the emerging green finance space while ensuring the best outcomes for both people and nature.
