Kieran studied Biological Sciences at the University of Oxford, with research speciality in conservation and ecology before completing a master’s degree in Sustainability and Adaptation at the Centre for Alternative Technology, where he looked at the role of politics, economics and systems thinking in ecological conservation.

During his studies, Kieran worked as Science Communicator for a Wrexham-based science centre.
