Phil Holden

Phil has been Manager of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape team since 2004. He grew up in Norfolk and took a degree in Geography and an MSc in Resource Management, and then worked in Scotland and Northumberland before coming to Shropshire. With a keen interest in how protected landscapes can deliver for nature and people, Phil has championed work on climate change and sustainability, community and youth involvement, sustainable tourism, nature recovery, and diversity and inclusion.

Phil is part of the National Landscapes Association’s Climate and Nature Panel, and of the EUROPARC Federation’s Sustainable Tourism Task Force. Phil loves many outdoor activities especially in the mountains and on the sea, and has visited all of the UK’s National Parks and National Landscapes. He has chosen no longer to use air travel but loves visiting spectacular landscapes in Europe, travelling sustainably as far as possible. He also enjoys doing practical conservation work as a volunteer on an area of village common land near his home.
