Jim is a biologist by training who has worked in conservation and public bodies for over 40 years.


Today he has a portfolio of interests. In addition to the National Landscapes Association he is a Trustee of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and a member of several Defra advisory groups, including as a panel member of the Glover Review of Protected Landscapes.


He has previously worked in advisory and non executive roles for Northumbrian Water, Visit Britain and the NHS. Jim’s executive career included being the CEO of the Peak District National Park and roles with the RSPB, Defra and the statutory conservation agencies. Jim writes for The Times and is a dealer in antiquarian books and antiques.


Jim joined our Board in 2021.
