Caroline Svendsen
Big Chalk Nature Recovery Fund Manager
The Big Chalk Partnership comprises more than 150 organisations with a common vision of creating nature-rich chalk and limestone landscapes that benefit all of us, across southern and eastern England. Hosted by the National Landscapes Association, Caroline manages the Big Chalk Nature Recovery Fund, funded through the Protected Landscapes Partnership with support from Defra.
Before joining The National Landscapes Association in 2025, Caroline was a Land Management Adviser for nearly three decades in the private and charity sectors before working for Natural England and its predecessor bodies for 25 years. Here she supported Land Managers with agri-environment grant schemes before supporting partners in landscape-scale nature recovery, through the Facilitation Fund, Landscape Recovery Scheme, Nature Recovery Network funding and the Local Nature Recovery Strategies. Living in the Chilterns and raised in the Cotswolds, Caroline has a deep knowledge of and connection with our chalk and limestone landscapes.
She has been an advocate of landscape-scale nature recovery throughout her career, of which Big Chalk is an exemplary programme, with it’s ambition to increase the scale and pace of nature's recovery across 20% of England.
