Bruce Winney

Nature Recovery Coordinator

Bruce is lucky enough to live in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape and after 20 years in academia, has recently switched his career to work in the conservation sector. His interest in nature recovery networks, and their role as a crucial tool to help tackle the biodiversity crisis, stems from a MSc dissertation into land use trade-offs of a draft nature recovery network in Oxfordshire.

Previous to this role, Bruce worked with the capacity building team at BirdLife International followed by a masters in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management. More recently, he was a policy officer with the Wildlife and Countryside Link where he led a deep dive into Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRSs), latterly advocating for the inclusion of species needs in the LNRS process and using LNRSs to prioritise the higher tiers of Environmental Land Management schemes.
